Hello Group
In my Redhat Linux 7.1 box wvdial is giving me a problem. After dialing the VSNL ISP and answeing the prompts wvdial dial says starting pppd at so and so time and holds up there. I have to manually disconnect from this point and the connection is not completed. I do all this as a superuser.
Please can anybody suggest a solution to the problem?
That is what I get using wvdial on potato for the past two days. Was working perfectly for the past year. I haven't changed any thing on my box. And I have to use whinedoze to access the web.

I didn't track this thread so far ... what is the problem? When does pppd die? What all does it say during negotiating the connection?? Maybe the ISP side suddenly decided to change its act ...

wvdial connects gets it's ip, starts pppd and then the above message. After that wvdial resets modem and redials and repaeats the above add infinitum. /var/Log/messages says

My guess is that for some reason the Hughes machine decides to fall back on SLIP rather than PPP, and your machine continues to try a PPP connection ...
