Hey one of my collegues pointed out this link to me thought it would be helpfull to all you guys who want to hack the MTNL modem. Arun I do not have access to a MTNL modem on linux right now but maybe once your in you could right a cron job to bring down the ppp0 connection.....

Thanks for the link Derwyn, I didn't see any cron binaries in the box. Will have to hack something with expect to telnet into the box and reboot at @ 00:00 and 08:00.

no offense but there is nothing related to "hacking" the dlink router! All he has described is the telnet interface into the router...
