Hi,
I have been trying to get Dishnet DSL working on my Mandrake 8.2 machine. This is a USB modem supplied by Dishnet in Mumbai, and is probably a Conexant-make (as is seen in Windows). When I plug this in Linux, the power light does turn on, as in all USB devices, and on running `usbview' I can see it listed as "USB ADSL modem". But my problem is how do I connect to the net? Is there any tool available, like wvdial, that allows ADSL connections, through USB modems? If not, what are the scripts for ppp? Any specific parameters for Dishnet?
Any pointers to the same will prove extremely useful.
Thanks,

Himanshu

This modem is unsupported in Linux. Dishnet offers an alternate solution that costs about double this for a Hardware router that works with Linux. <snip>

This has been pretty much a FAQ in the Bangalore LUG. I recommend asking around before choosing a broadband ISP. I recommend ditching Dishnet.

Does this mean none of the DSL connections in India (Hughes & sundry) work under Linux, or is this a problem only with Dishnet?

it is a problem only with dishnet. that too can be avoided if you insist on an ethernet based modem from your dsl provider.
