Hello Friends, I just wanted to share wat im doing right now...May sound crazy..But experts here may give me some advice tats why im writing this...
I started downloading knoppix on sunday morning(08:08:05) with my sify broadband connection...But till afternoon i could download only 12% of the total download using the Firfox browsers inbuilt download manager after which i had a power shut down :(
So i had to restart the download from 0% again in the evening,Some one in one of the yahoo chat rooms suggested me to use "FlashGet" to download knoppix,So till yesterday nite i was able to download 15% of it...Again today morning i started it,Its still downloading :D
Whn i just look back,I feel wat im doing is quite funny or indeterminable...I didnt know any other way to get it,Im put up in chennai...I don't have any friends having knoppix CD in here....Im still continuing this thing here....
Kindly tell me any other alternatives....Coz the only way i felt like getting is this one.. :(

bittorrent could be faster than single site download. Also, I use wget to download from a single site. It allows me to resume downloads, even if I switch to a different mirror.

Hi there, What you need is a download manager, which is basically what "FlashGet" is. There are many other download managers, "wget" being the favourite of most linux users. Its available for windows too. :) http://www.gnu.org/software/wget/wget.html Since you have started using FlashGet, you can continue with it. About the speed, dont worry, it once took me a month to download an ISO.
Another way out is to ask the lug in chennai. http://www.chennailug.org/Someone could give you a CD. Or you could look for a magazine like "Linux for You" or some other which has the CD.

Might I add the very useful d4x to the list of useful downloaders. Basically its GUI ( gtk ) based and supports resume, multi-site downloading, scheduling, b/w controlling etc etc.

wget -c <download-link>
In case of a power failure, the -c option will continue to download from where it left off during the last instance.

rsync --partial I might be wrong here. Never used it, but thats what the manpage and google tell me.

Hello friends, Downloading Knoppix was a failure as of now... I used wget...Even the i had constant power but during 60% of the download there was some problem with the FTP mirror site..So wget stopped retrieving the file.... So as of now..Im stopping the download of knoppix...May be by i will try again after some 4-5 days...But as the proverb goes "Try try try again till u succeed" :D
Yus i also tried to find some one in chennai lug...But thier mail man interface is not working :( I will keep trying...
If u guys get to know some book tat gives me knoppix CD along with it please lemme know the name of it so i can buy that :)

Hey friends, Atlast i succeded in downloading KNOPPIX...A sign of relief... It took me a day completly... Seems Sify has also updated the net package charges...So im getting 64KBPS now...So it was a blessing in disguise for me....
Now ready to Xplore things... One more doubt i wanted to aske was .. While using Knoppix the 2nd or 3rd Screen shows some rows* columns for selection..Is that our screen resolution?? Also pls do tell me how to configure internet in knoppix?
