Hi
Can you describe the actual method and programs that you use to connect to the net, from the time you log into your desktop as a user? I have used debian sarge with firestarter 0.9 and it worked well. I used kppp on my desktop. You _may_ have to add gksu - kppp in your shortcut properties to be able to use it as a user. It will ask you for the root password.
I connect using this pppd /dev/modem 115200 debug usepeerdns defaultroute noauth connect '/usr/sbin/chat -v "" at+crm=1 OK "atdt#777" CONNECT' 8030935906 8030935906. Everything goes fine but when i am online the desktops icons just vanish. I got a pcq on the other partition and it runs gracefully.

Do you actually type this entire line everytime you want to connect or well maybe its a script file you made for ready use, but do try kppp from the gui mode. Your external modem will be /dev/ttyS0 if connected to com1 or /dev/ttyS1 if connected to com2. In kppp you may have to add this line as the optional command in the after connect text box of kppp setup.. 'route add default ppp0' without the quotes.

Rony.
