LO,
If given a choice, would anybody like to come back to a CUI based Operating System...those good old days of UNIX / the 1990's (early) Linux OS? (or GNU/Linux, if it had been associated)
This very thought has its roots in the short story below!
Long time back in my first year (BSc I. T.), I had developed a small utility for DOS in C(we did not have GNU/Linux anywhere around in first year!) which was a "one letter DOS"(kindof emulator for DOS). Any user who would run it, would just have to type a single letter to execute / display something. For example, if one wants to clear the screen, he has to just type the letter 'b' (b for blank). 'h' for help!
--------------------------------- If you don't know something, its always better to learn it and then experiment with components! PLAN THINGS BEFORE EXECUTION! Visit http://www.somaiya.edu You have the ability to change things so that they, not only benefit you but others as well, but you might resist to...think about it! The different distros of GNU/Linux pretty much resemble the different cultures of indians all having the same foundation (the kernel) Use OpenOffice.orgDownload it for windows from http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.0/

I wouldn't want to keep typing commands for using my computer, i'm wary of carpal tunnel syndrome and other keyboard related problems caused by repeated typing.

The mouse does not ameliorate the situation. You are still prone to carpal tunnel syndrome with a mouse.

totally agree... my right forefinger has a lot of pain from scrolling too much that i use the left hand for all mouse related stuff (read: which is not that much these days!)

You need to do a couple of simple excersies several times a day to prevent injury. 1 clench and open fingers a few times 2 cock wrist like a praying mantis and extend wrist up down and side to side 3 Face palm in front (as in "stop") and gently pull palm towards u with other hand.
several more for shoulder, neck, lower back elbows and knees - all highily prone to repetetive stress injuries while sitting doing nothing with em - but difficult to explain in words.
Sometime Today, j cobbled together some glyphs to say:

I sometimes give vocal commands to my PC... then people look at me like I'm crazy. It talks back only to tell me that I have new mail[1]

Carpal tunnel is triggered by bad keyboard habits (and bad keyboards). Don't keep typing for too long, take regular breaks, use a keyboard which allows your fingers to go to the proper stroke depth.
Mousing is actually worse, unless you have a mouse which actually fits your hand.
