hi all
i wanted to know how many files can one store in a single directory. not total number of files in all subdirectories.
we have stored around 70K files in a single directory but here i m looking at a a volume of 300K+ ...
if there is any restriction then can they be alterterd from anywhere.
any pointers .....help appreciated

The inode structure of most unix based file systems do not pose a limit on the number of files in a directory. The total number of files on your partition, will be governed by the size of your allocation units.
