Google for Bash shell scripting tutorials, you'll find a large variety of options.

Boot from your setup CD # 1 and type 'linux rescue' at the boot prompt. this will get you to the rescue shell.

In the rescue shell that you get to by booting from the CD, first chroot to your linux partition (chroot /mnt/hdXX , where hdXX is hda1 or whatever your partition is) and then run 'grub-install'. this will write the boot manager into the MBR with the current config file (/boot/grub/grub.conf).
