Hi!
For the past few days, I'm not being able to access the login page of my online stock trading website which is www.hdfcsec.com
The login page url is https://trade.hdfcsec.com
When I click on the login button on the main site, the login page tries to open but the status bar keeps showing "Connected to trade.hdfcsec.com..." indefinitely but the page does not loads up.
I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.17 under Ubuntu 7.04 (feisty fawn) on my laptop and Firefox 3 under Fedora Core 10 on my desktop. Both machines are connected to the internet through bsnl dataone broadband connection and I'm using Netgear DG834G adsl modem-cum-router in dhcp mode. The desktop is connected through ethernet and the laptop connects on wireless. I tried accessing the page from Firefox/IE runnning under Vista on my laptop but I'm facing the same problem there as well.
I tried accessing the login page from one of my friend's machine who's got the same broadband connection but a different modem (huawei smartx882 connected via ethernet with static ip setup) with ubuntu 8.04 installed on his machine and the page opens just fine at his place using Firefox/Opera.
What could be going wrong at my end? Please help.
Regards, Sarfaraz

Most likely some network issue. Can you try upgrading to firefox 3? Can you try connecting your machine to your friend's internet connection and check if its working? If so then your internet connection is to be blamed. I dont think your modem could be the culprit but then again if some sort of filtering is enabled on your modem then it could be an issue.

This could because of the Firewall at their end.
try this and see if you get any output?
wget --save-headers https://trade.hdfcsec.com -O-

Not possible. If the same site works for his friend, me and several others then its not a server side issue. Must be a client side issue.
Sarfaraz as I mentioned in my earlier post, try using the site on your laptop at your friends place using *his* internet connection and report back the results.
Pls see the reply below.

I was refering to ping responses.

I have asked him to use wget to eliminate application related issue. He should also try alternate connection as suggested by you.

This is insane! OK, here's what I did. I changed the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) size from the default 1492 to 1452 in my router's settings. Now, when I directly enter the URL of the login page, i.e., https://trade.hdfcsec.com the page opens however I'm not being able to open the main website, i.e., www.hdfcsec.com
Other websites are working just fine!

Some network card is about to die soon. Probably the router's Internet facing card.

You mean there's a problem with the wireless chipset on my laptop?
