Hi
Well the directory has 777 permissions, and I mean any user "xyz" not only "root".
But the point is that as the file is readonly how is vi allowing to do forced write, and change the ownership of file? Even if it allows this then should't it be restricted to root or at most the owner/group-members!!
The version of vi that I use is "vim-enhanced-6.2.98-1" on a RedHat9.

Sometime Today, abhilash kumar assembled some asciibets to say:

I already explained it. vi isn't writing to the file, it's deleting and creating a new file. Your directory permissions allow it.
To delete/create files, you need write permissions on the *directory*, not on the file.

I have downloaded ISO images of the first three Fedora 3 CDs using Bittorrent - there are two more to go. When I try to burn the images to CD, however, k3b tells me that the file "seems not be a usable CD image". Can't figure out what is happening here. Does Bittorent wait for all the images to be downloaed before rejigging the files into usable ISO images?
Any help appreciated.
Sujeet
Check the md5sum of the images with those listed on the site.

You could say that. The size does not guarantee that the images are complete. Use the md5sum to verify that.

Until the bt client says that the downloads are complete, do not imagine so. BT creates large files, and then replaces their content, IIRC.

I am glad to report that you are right. After all the four CD images were downloaded, they miraculously transformed themselves into "usable images". Thanks for the tip.
