hi all i want to connect to yahoo instant messenger servers through Gaim. i am behind proxy that only allows http. i have set the proxy settings in gaim options appropriately and have also set the enviornmental variable HTTP_PROXY to the address of the proxy. but am not being able to connect. the error is "unable to connect"
what else do i have to do to get it working.

Last I read, gaim's yahoo transport is broken. Yahoo's own client works. As does ayttm(though I have issues sending messages to people who are invisible in yahoo)

Maybe you did not select the "Allow Offline Messaging" button - it's sole purpose is to send offline messages/messages to people currently invisible/hidden.
