hi Frinds
I had RH-Linux 7 and Windows 98 installed on my PC.So while booting it alwaysused to ask me whther i want to boot thro Linux or Win98
I had some problem with Win98 and hence reinstalled Win98.Now i supose its overwritten my MBR and hence i am not able to get my LILO prompt.
Please tell me how can i get my LILO prompt again.i dont want to re-install Linux again.I think its possible to get back the LILO prompt.
Thanks in advance

Boot from the RHL7 installation disk by typing "linux rescue" at the boot prompt. After a while it will ask you whether to search for any Linux partitions on the hard disk. Say yes to this dialog box. This will mount your root partition on /mnt/sysimage and will drop you to a shell. Then do 'chroot /mnt/sysimage' at the shell. This will make /mnt/sysimage as new /. Now just typing 'lilo' will write lilo to MBR.

Please give the detailed partition table of your hard disk. How many linux partitions do you have? Where is each of the linux partition mounted in the root fs?
Have you repartitioned the disk while installing win98? The partition numbers seem to be changed since the kernel is unable to find the /. If this is the case then you probably need to change the kernel parameter 'root' in the /etc/lilo.conf file to 'root=/dev/hdax' where 'x' is the partition number which contains the root fs. You need to rewrite lilo to MBR after editing this.

Boot into Linux using a boot disk. Run lilo as root.
