Hello all,
I wonder if this is the appropriate forum to post my query. I'm Linux newbie, very much interested to learn and share about Linux. I have heard about RHCE certification being one of the hottest in 2006. Seeking advice if joining a coaching class at RH authorised centre is MANDATORY which I think charges quite a bit. I wish to know if any of you is RHCE certified but gained the training elsewhere thru a friend/ Linux expert in Mumbai at comparatively lower cost. If so, please let me know the contact person.
Thanks in advance AA --------------------------------- Get your email and more, right on the new Yahoo.com

<sarcasm> Forget all that. The best way to pass RHCE is to find an institute where they'll sell you all the problems that'll appear in the exam you appear for and pass with 100% marks. It isn't difficult to find such an institute either. </sarcasm>

Hi AA.
Don't worry too much about certifications. You should be looking to gain knowledge and expertise. Look for an expert who can teach you linux in a very lucid way. Install linux at home an experiment on it. That IMHO is the best way.
Remember, the RHCE cert will only give you an interview call. How you fare in the interview and most importantly in you job, depends entirely on your expertise. All the best!
Regards, NMK.

First find out from Red Hat what is the minimum qualification required for taking the RHCE exam. Their office is in Nariman Point and address can be got from their site. Only then think of bypassing the course. However, if you are a newbie, it would be better to get some experience with linux before doing the course. In the RH authorised institute where I studied, the last and important module involving servers which needed more hands on practicals, was mainly a demonstration session with practicals kept out of course time, totally voluntary. The course was a part time one. While the instructor was an expert, even getting to view a single monitor among 15 to 21 students was a problem. I did not sit for the exam as I still had to gain server level knowledge. Our 3 month course had got extended to 9 months due to problems in the institute. I must add that the first 2 modules went very well with a previous instructor who spent a lot of time explaining details about linux as well as computing and networking basics. That helps me now with my hardware business.
There is no such thing as a linux expert giving you full training in linux. It is mostly self learning as no one will want to give ready made information.

Rony.

GNU/Linux covers every aspect of computing - tiny potato powered servers to supercomputing parallel vector machines. So you would have to pick your area of expertise.
It is mostly self learning as no one will want to give ready made information.
I will add that that the range and depth of info is so huge that it becomes very difficult to present any info to a newbie with lucidity, rather than any crumminess on the part of people who have knowledge. Otoh if a person does some self learning, questions will most certainly be answered. Leading to a healthy cycle of knowledge aquiring and sharing. Most important do not expect anything as your birth right.

Haven't they moved to BKC? I used to see the Red Hat's office in Mittal Towers but it's not there any more. And on their site I see only BKC address in Mumbai on contact page.
