Hi, First of all I would like to thank all of you for the help.

I have tried the modem driver at http://pctel.technion.ac.il/pctel-linux/. I have tried this on various distributions like redhat7.2,redhat9,fc1,fc2,ubuntu ,slackware,lycorix but I could not get it to work.

Yesterday , I tried the experimental version for 2.6 kernel again .It gave me compilation errors. Finally, I have given up. I am thinking of buying an external modem.

Do you have any information regarding their compatibility? I enquired for it and the shopkeeper he had this model 'Dlink DFE 562 E++' .I tried finding this model on the net for linux drivers but I could not locate it.

If you have any information regarding which external modem is linux compatible and in Mumbai where can I purchase it please write to me. Modem is the only way I can connect to the net and I have been struggling to do so with my internal modem which I had bought when I had very little knowledge of computers (leave alone windows or linux).

I need to get the internet connection working in linux in the next fifteen days ,it is required urgently

As far as I know , the absence of drivers is not related to lack of standardisation.In http://standardisation.In fact linux systems conform to POSIX standard and if the programmer writes code conforming to these standards it is guarenteed to work on all POSIX compliant systems.Corect me if I am wrong.Enlightened people can throw more light on this subject.
