Hello All,
The video player does not play VCDs now. But that is a minor issue and the cus. will use windows for multimedia for the time being. Maybe on my next visit....
Is the sound half duplex? likely that the sound card modules are not listed in /etc/modules.
You should setup a ras service with the dialup. Ask the customer to turn on the modem, dialin, login and administer. No need to visit. Or if he has a public ip, ssh and administer.

The sound was fine when the system started and I got the jingle tune too but after a reboot, it disappeared.

The sound module prolly isn't getting loaded or isn't mapped to the correct character devices.
What's the output of lsmod immediately after a reboot and after you try to play a sound. Also, show us what /etc/modules.conf (or equivalent) looks like
