Although the original post in the LIH list mentions Mumbai ILUG, I have not seen it here yet.

I am forwarding it here since I believe we will be seeing a lot more of this kind of crap from the GoI e-Governance portals. Portals, paid for by the tax payers money, supporting only closed proprietary software.

how about different people from ilugd, ilugb, etc who understand this issue deeply...send in their opinions (and explanations of the procedure and impact) to LINUX FOr You (lfyedit@efyindia.com), and then a senior journalist will interact with the GoI and do a major story.

the same can be FDLed and can be released on the Net too, so that the entire community can raise awareness about this issue

Can these be put in hall of shame?

Starting now all companies are required to file returns electronically and under digital signature. A look at Ministry of Company Affairs site reveals that you need WInXP or WIndow2000 O/S only to do e-filing.

They have ofcourse set up nominated e-filing centres to help users. But who will guarantee that my e-signatures are not copied or key logged by spyware running at such centres?

How do we agitate this issue?
