And how is this the Macbook's fault ? DVD region encoding is enforced by all legally manufactured DVD players. Apple, OS X or Steve jobs has nothing to do with it.
Which means you have either never legally bought a DVD in recent times, or have not used a recently procured DVD player. If you had you would have seen how most non-Apple manufacturers don't implement hardware region encoding, and the LG and SONY players that I have seen with my own eyes and touched with my own hands are legally manufactured.
And FWIW, the stores that you buy your DVDs from, don't necessarily pay attention to the regions *they get their supplies from*, hence your problem.
That is precisely the problem, isn't it?
