I have a RH 6.2 setup used as a file server and net sharing purpose. after abt 1 month of the setup, i just could not login as root or other user. i tried getting in as linux single and changing password, but on logging again same story, also, i tried changing the /etc/password and /etc/shadow files, but again the same prob. i m stuck up now, pls help me.

First, get into your system (through single if necessary) and check the /var/log/messages file to see what errors occur when you try to log in.
While still in single user mode, try executing the login program to see what happens.
Check /etc/passwd to see what shells are set for your users. Do those shells exist? (/bin/bash)
Check /etc/pam.d/login Some of the libraries that are called from there are probably blocking you.
There's more that I can't think of right now.
