My friend has an IBM r40e with Agere systems modem. She has Yoper running on it but it didn't recognise the modem. Does anyone have a r40e with a successful detect of the modem. If yes please tell me which distro. I have found a driver but not tried it yet.

Yeah! I have been using the IBM R40E modem successfully on a 2.4.18 Kernel with slmodemd (http://www.google.co.in/search?hl=en&q=slmodemd&btnG=Google+Search&a...)

I dont remember the version number. But it did work well enough. If you need more info I could look into the version number, etc and let you know. I haven't used much of the modem since Reliance and Dataone.
