Dear Friends,
Sorry to be bothering you again and again. I found this very good site http://www.aboutdebian.com/contents.htm and it is a comprehensive guide for debian setup. It provided the solution to the resolve problem. On connecting to the net, I had to add :- route add default ppp0 in the command line and this is my first mail from debian. Will go through the site before posting any other problems.
Regards,
Rony.

I think if you add "defaultroute" and "usepeerdns" options to /etc/ppp/options, you can omit the same from the command line. In fact all ppp options you are providing on command line can be put in /etc/options & you don't have to mention them explicitly.
