rpm is the command that you have to use if the extension of the file is .rpm
rpm -ivh "prog name"
this command has to be run as super user.
if the file is in tar.gz format then u have to use ' tar zxvf "prog name".tar.gz ' then read the readme file in the folder that was recently created.
