Hello All,
Right now I am in a dilemma situation and need some help from the experts. Has anyone installed a Decklink Extreme Video Edit card before? http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/sd/specs/ I have to install it in a new studio grade system whose mobo is Asus A8N SLI Premium. The main PCI Express slot will be used by a high end Nvidia graphics card. http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=15&l3=0&model=539&... The stupid part is that even the Decklink people don't know which slot to mount the card. They sell the card only. It is a PCI Express card and the site says its compatible to PCI Exp. x1, x4, x8 and x16 slots. This 'washing of hands' by the dealer is taking place after the order is under execution, so I just need to know which slot can I install the card. I understand, the card is not related to linux but if anyone has hardware experience on this, please help.
Thanks and Regards,
Rony.

Thanks very much for the link. I only need to confirm one thing. I am not going to run two graphics cards, so I guesss I won't need to use the SLI technology which is meant for 2 identical graphics cards. There are other PCI express slots on the mobo too, like x1 and x4.
Can I safely insert the Decklink Extreme card into the smaller x1 or x4 slots as the Decklink site says? and at the same time use the main PCI express slot in x16 mode for the graphics card? My only worry is about damaging the cards which cost about 60K each. After giving full assurances for tech. support, my supplier is getting cold feet on the tech. front especially for the Decklink card.

Rony.

Hello JTD, I found this information from Decklink's site http://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/detail.asp?techID=47#DualCore_PCIe
"Certified PCIe Systems for Standard Definition only
Use any 1, 4, 8 or 16 lane slot in the following Pentium and AMD Dual Core systems for use with standard definition DeckLink PCIe cards. [snip] AMD ATHLON DUAL CORE Asus A8N-E nVidia nForce 4 Chipset [snip]
So can I simply use the Decklink card in any of the other x1 or x4 PCIe slots? Is there any risk of damage that I need to avoid during assembly?
Regards,
Rony.

Your supplier is going to ditch you with a mile long list of excuses if something goes wrong anyway.

Afaik none. The PCIE is speced for fast data rates. There are no voltage changes. So it is most unlikely to damage the card on immediate operation. Further the graphics card itself states that it can run on all slots. The mobo manual should have detailed info.
