Dear Friends,
In the last few months, a lot of people were asking for Linux users group in Navi Mumbai area. I am based in Navi Mumbai and I couldn't find one. So we just created one!
The address is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nmlug
The NMLUG is a computer users group serving Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas. We are dedicated to spreading Linux and other Open Source software and work to educate and assist Linux beginners while also helping more advanced users expand their skills and interact with other local Linux users. We have a huge collection of Linux cds and books which are shared among the members.
To subscribe to the group , send a mail to nmlug-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
Sometime Today, Mejo Jose assembled some asciibets to say:

I welcome the creation of this group, it will help foster the linux users community in navi mumbai. Given the number of engineering colleges around there, you have a large market to tap in to.
I wish you well.
User groups operate best when there is a small group of people, _all_ of whom are interested in exchanging support.
We've spoken about forking the group on technical terms before, but it may just be that the real fork should be on geographical terms.

It makes better sense to form more free software user groups and not merely Linux. Old groups cant change their name due to legacy reasons, but for the new ones need not repeat that mistake. I would request them to make the name "FSUG of NaviMumbai" or "GLUG of NaviMumbai".

I think FSUG is the best way to go since Free Software does not poke the GNU / Linux issue which bothers most people. However, choosing FS vs OS becomes another problem.
What would be worth while doing is to conduct a poll on the current "ilug" to see what people think is better since FS and OS although on the same side when compared to closed source or proprietary, they are different in philosophy.
Can this be done?
