I hear a lot of discussion about how the Linux GUI should be more user-friendly, and how all programs should have a good GUI, etc.
I have one need in a GUI: consistency!
But here's my main point: I see too many programs now that require X to be installed, when the program doesn't need X. Why? Why? Don't do that.
This has been a rant.

also Qt, gtk, Xaw ... i'll miss them if some "standard" comes up .. My point : Please have the variety .. It is spice of life right ?

What Satya means is: Keep *my* desktop consistent, let everything obey my themes...... You setup your desktop with a theme and everything obeys that theme, even KDE apps running in GNOME. Not one desktop environment, one desktop (different issues).
