Hi !
When I turned off DMA using hdparm -d0 /dev/hda everything was fine :)
I would like to know how can one turn this setting permanent.
Put it as a command in your rc.local.

Put it in rc.local. I have this at the end of my rc.local:
/sbin/hdparm -c1 -d /dev/hda
/sbin/insmod binfmt_misc echo ':Java:M::\xca\xfe\xba\xbe::/usr/local/java/javawrapper:' > \ /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc/register echo ':Applet:M::<!--applet::/usr/local/java/appletviewer:' > \ /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc/register

Stick it in rc.local (that's your autoexec.bat-equiv).
