Hi Vinayak,
Just thought I'd add my two paise, I use RH extensively, if all else fails I'd be glad to have you across (or perhaps to come across) to help, if you are close by 9i.e. not too far away). My office is at Vile Parle (East) and I stay at Santacruz (West). RH 9 is a great product and I've been using it for quite a while.
RH9 is a good product no doubt. Unfortunately I no longer live in Mumbai.( I am based in Bangalore).
Could I have some generic info: Processor used, Maximum RAM, HDD size, Type of sound card, built in on the M'board or a separate plugin card?
I have used RH9 and other distros on a variety of hardware, the only two notable hardware /chipsets which gave problems were a Winmodem(s/w based modems) and the infamous SiS 6215 card. (I know many Linuxers have not so fond memories of both of these :D).
Regarding, The cablewala, what windows based s/w are you currently using ? If I've an idea then I could make an ntelligent guess on what could be used on RH9
Mention the cable internet provider and the windows based software they use. There are many people on this list who have got it working without any problems. They should be able to help you.
If you like visit my web site www<dot>ivanbayross<dot>com I have a downloads section in which there is a whole lot of doucmentation on how to connect a dialup to the NET via Linux. I would like to find out it you found it to be useful. Ivan
If you have written any documentation on your own consider submitting it to tldp.org (howtos/guides) and or linuxgazette.net so a lot other people can benefit from it.
Last but not the least I did not ask the question but answered it. So you replied to the wrong mail. :D
Absolutely NEW to Linux, I recently installed RH9.0 I also couldnt configure the Internet access wizard 4 dial-up access.
If I wish access Internet thru Cable system how do I configure it coz our Cableman doesnt seem to know about it. All help shall be highly appreciated. Thx in advn.
RH9 did not ship with mp3 plugin due to patent concerns. get the plugin here. http://havardk.xmms.org/dist/xmms-1.2.7-rh8-rh9-rpm/
You can use kppp to configure dial up access.
