Plus if gmail has progressed so much, it can at least give an option in its settings to post the reply above or below the text, as it did in the web interface after gmail was introduced only with a top posting reply format initially.

Hi Rony, Mobiles and portable devices have long moved from being a quick / emergency usage devices. They have now become in many cases, primary mode of using the internet. We use it all the time, even when in office where desktops are available. Few today have time to sit separately and use a desktop to reply to all mails that have accumulated during the day. Ofcourse, if we have a long voluminous report or a 10 page mail to send, we have to use a desktop or laptop.
If that is the criteria being used, then many people will simply not reply. As they cant be bothered to find a desktop or to devote separate time to it. Most of my mails are sent when i am travelling in the car to and from office, or club or client meetings.
Plus if gmail has progressed so much, it can at least give an option in its settings to post the reply above or below the text, as it did in the web interface after gmail was introduced only with a top posting reply format initially.
Gmail is not the primary or main mailing system for most of us. We use our own. Or the ones available on the mobile platform we are currently using.

That is the point. Every thing does not work through the mobile. It is a practice followed by many other technical support lists. They keep messages trimmed and relevant and follow the top to bottom dialogue format. It is not unique to this list only. If it is possible to do it through a mobile, its great otherwise IMO the larger interests of the list should prevail.

I too use the same application but only to read messages whenever I get time. It is just a plain question of "My device does not allow me to follow your rules so should I be exempted from following them?". You've got to take that decision.

Though not related to this topic, those who want to use mobile email applications but do not want to spend on monthly rentals can download a java based application for gmail from m.google.com/mail on their latest mobiles and use it just like an email client. It uses normal browsing accounts so there is no special rental for pop/smtp required. Gmail's web interface can be configured to receive mails from other pop accounts too. All these will then come to your mobile.

Yes the usual chinese kit assy. in India. WITH linux. Actually all the components save the housing is available of the shelf. DIY minus fancy housing should be doable in the 10K range in retail quantities (10~20). Rs.14K single shot. I am seriously thinking of assembling one, if i can wrangle a couple of 10" pixelqi screens - but the price then shoots up to 25K.

FYI, both of them are there on apple products. I use it with the mac all the time and i am sure ipad has it too.
