Hi,
I encountered an error . root user can login through GUI in Centos 5.4. while normal user can't login thbrough GUI.
The errors i got are... XFS failed.while shutting down the system. But if i check the status of XFS ..XFS dead but pid is working.

XFS is the X Font Server.
1. Open up a console (CNTRL + ALT + F1) 2. Login in as root user 3. service xfs restart
Item 3 will restart the X Font Server.

Please check /var/log/Xorg.0.log, /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages for errors around the time you try to login. At least one of them should give you clues as to what's going wrong.

Hi,
1) Check out is there any lock file available in /tmp ( It increases size of /tmp ) e.g X.0.lock ..remove it if present. 2) Upgrade current X Font package. 3) Restart xfs service 4) Restart X11.
U Doneeeee.
