Hi, i have a amd-opteron 246 processor. with slackware 10 installed. i have gcc-3.3.4 when i try to compile any code with 64-bit flag it is giving me an error stating that 64 bit not implemented. Do i have to install a newer version of gcc?

Google as well as gcc.gnu doesny say much about 64bit compilation .... Anyone with any knowledge of 64 bit compilation please reply.
