Do you know how much time it actually takes to start a live CD on a P4 with 128 MB RAM?
my reply has little relevance to the topic, but I would like to share this information.
It is approximately 7 minutes for the GNOME desktop to load on my P4 248 MB (256 -8 Video Memory) using Ubuntu 6.06 Live CD / and KDE on Kubuntu 6.06 Live Cd. (right from *Boot from Cd...* till the final screen of stability, where the mouse moves smoothly)
Who is going to go through the pain (read time) required to boot a live CD, then setup networking and what not, just to check email?
I agree...30 minutes...20 Rupees!! :-?
And plus, there are things like CMOS password and administrator privileges which make it very difficult for you to do that.
Not so common in Cyber cafe's afaik. Possibility in College Computer Labs.

P4 2.8CGHz with HT Northwood 800MHz FSB. 256MB single channel DDR400 will load Ubuntu dapper drake(?) in about 3 minutes _inside_ QEMU with the proprietary plugin loaded ( fast-qemu?? ) :)
Dunno why it takes 7 minutes on real world machines. The QEMU machine has only 192MB RAM available at its disposal.

There is an entry fee (50 INR for students, 250 otherwise) according to the site. Pretty nominal for the content.
