Hello All,
If you are using KDE and don't want Konqueror but a simple file browser then install Dolphin using apt or adept. Then right click on any folder and select 'Open With'. Here select Dolphin and check the remember box. Now every time you open a folder, it opens in Dolphin.

Dolphin will be the default "simple" file browser in KDE 4 and apparently Konqueror will still be there and will be capable of loading a Dolphin part, so basically it will be able to do file browser stuff with Dolphin foo and web browser using Konq/KHTML. Hail KParts!
Some day, KHTML will be replaced by son of KHTML also known as Webkit. Qt 4.4 which will be released in early 2008 will have Webkit, btw.
Cheers!
