I am an ex-suscriber for this when i am working in (TISS) Mumbai.I used to attend meetings also.Now i am in NCBS (TIFR) Bangalore.
Windows Xp supports samba or not (File and print sharing)
From windiws Xp i am able connect samba, but authentication is the problem.

Try with password encryption on, and also do create smbpasswords. /usr/share/doc/smb- should contain the relevant help.

Does Windows XP send encrypted passwords by default? Win 98 does that and the workaround is to make Win98 send out plain text passwords. This can be done in the registry. See the file Win95.txt and WinNT.txt in the samba docs.
maybe this is how it works for Windows XP too.

If we dont have win95 machines in the lan it is beter to go for encrpted passwords.
