I wanted to know if it is possible for root to login using FTP. I know that it is restricted and also understand that from a security point of view it is a really stupid idea, but still i would like to know if there is a work-around to that restriction. The distro is RedHat7.1 and the FTP daemon is wuftpd.

yes. read the docs. it would be unsafe for us to give you information without you understanding all the consequences, so, read the docs. I don't have ftpd installed, so can't tell you which files, but IIRC, it is /etc/ftpusers
