Hi Luggers, I was wondering if we could have an ilug-bom IRC channel. After corresponding with The_Linuxer, who informed me that Pune LUG has their own channel called #Pluggies on Freenode(used to be called Openprojects), I thought it might be a good idea to have an IRC # for our very own ilug-bom. The_Linuxer has already registered the channel #ilug-bom on freenode. This channel might help because this way people can get instantaneous replies to their queries. Also this might help a lot of the organizers/hosts (for various events) correspond in real time. Also considering that many luggers now have access to the internet 24/7, I think this # will remain populated throughout. I know this sounds redundant and one might say that there are enough #s on IRC which do troubleshooting of problems. However, since we have a fairly large user base now, I think that it might help to have our own litte niche on IRC :). If you do think it's a good idea contact me, either via e-mail or ramanujan @ freenode (irc.freenode.net).

we had one. we've even had two lug meetings online. we had like 5 people in attendance. we discussed like... nothing. no one came back.
yeah, people who are interested in IRC can do that. personally, I prefer replying to queries when I have the time - first thing in the morning, once in the afternoon and just before leaving at night.
one major problem with IRC is that there isn't (automatic) archiving like with our mailing list. This means that people cannot search it later.
If someone can set this up, it would be a really cool feature. Yes, it is somewhere on my todo list, and most of our Free IM clones support logging, so if we could just have a log-bot always be present in the channel, this might do the trick.

Yup. Sorry about that. I have now setup a MAP in Vim which sets textwidth to 76 characters. If anyone know of a better way to do this (i.e directly from Mutt and not through Vim, get back to me.)

Ok. I can set that up and link it on my website. However, I have one problem. I come back to India for 1 1/2 months every year and I don't have a cable connection there(not yet anyways), so someone else might have to do the logging for then. But that would result in there being two separate instances of the logs. Alternatively, I could ftp the logs to ilug-bom.org.in and they could be hosted on the website. But this still does not take care of the original problem of 1 1/2 months that I am not here. Anyways, I am going to set this up for now.
Channel Name: #ilug-bom Network: freenode Logs: http://logs.bhargav.com/%23ilug-bom.freenode.log or http://orca.wien.rhno.columbia.edu/%23ilug-bom.freenode.log
Hope to see you all there.
