I am having FC6 installed on IBM ThinkPad R40e. It hangs abruptly. Is there a way to find out the cause of it? I have checcked /var/log/messages but was not able to find anything concrete.

FC6 is not a nice distro. I had problems in installation itself in my PC as well as laptop. The worst part is that all the computer mags had only this distro for December as if it was a hot cake. :P

Did you file bugs so that FC7 becomes a nice distribution ? As regards the original post, can you try and stop services that you don't absolutely require at that point in time so that one can narrow down the errant service ?

The X server itself crashed on first boot. I did not file any bug report. I was busy apologising to Debian in my mind, for going astray. :-D

And you don't think that merits a bug ? :( Sad...

If it does not meet even basic requirements, I will reject it.

Strange. I have been using FC6 ever since it was released and never had any serious problems. IMHO, it's the hardware that matters. FC works for some and Debian for others.

To be honest, FC5 has worked where Debian 3.1 with linux26 and K/Ubuntu 6.06 and 6.10 has failed. ;). It was on an HP laptop. I liked FC3 and FC4. I see in your signature that you are using a 64 bit version.
