For starters, why don't you try hacking Anaconda or just base your distro on the minimal distribution of Debian. Once you know hoe the stuff works, you could start right from scratch. Beleive me, using Anaconda or the minimal distribution to build your own distro is just as exciting.

Hi Luggers,
I am currently in the process of building a custom GNU/Linux system for myself using 'Linux From Scratch' as a reference. How do I make a distribution of my own, complete with a custom installation script. Can anyone suggest some literature which I could download.
Since I'm taking the pains/pleasure to select the right mix of packages for myself I might as well distribute it to others who want the same mix of packages :-)

Thanks !
I'll study anaconda first. If I have any doubts...I'll get back to you :-)

Hi,
I am not sure about this, but I think what you are looking for is LFS (Linux from scratch). Visit http://munshi.dyndns.org/~amish and click on books link, I have a few books hosted on that.
Bye.
