It is important to let people know and realise how much can be achieved on Linux, how easy it is for end users to operate and what software is available. I have started inviting friends over to come and have a look at how it works on my PC to get an idea of what it can do.
This is a really important concern for Linux. Though it is
powerful
and flexible ,most people are not aware of it's advantages.
Most of the
people think it's a *cheap software* which is not worth
working on or
Unfortunately this is quite true. I teach students doing their MSc in s/w systems, and I was amazed at their ignorance about free software.
Since I teach software engineering, we've taken up GNU/Linux as a case study for this subject. I get the feeling it has aroused their interest in free s/w. One student asked me, "If it's so great, which I can see it is, how come we never knew about it?".
I also wish to encourage these students to take up GNU/Linux related final-semester projects, where I hope the PRC will assist me.

[snip] Nikhil.....Lemme thank u for the keen concern u hav shown towards educating Students abt the concept of Free Software.
Out here in this LUG, our motto above all has been to get the concept of Free SoftWare to the masses......If eve u think a small 5-6 Hr Lecture conducted by the LUG could go a long way in helping out in terms of demonstrating the Strengths/Weaknesses of building S/W the GPL way.....we would be gald to oblige.
