Fellas,
As a community we need to congregate for the benefit of everyone. Looking from a "Just For Fun" and "To Educate" perspective please line out what you think would be the event you would expect the GLUG-BOM to conduct.

How about a lecture on "Introduction to Windows 2003 Server Features" That shld people compare Linux and Windows objectively, and know where Linux scores/doesnt score over the fav rival. Knowledge of the 'enemy' is the prime requirement for a win!

I will take this point in a very positive way and will surely be attending it. we always talk about ourselves, lets see how others are doing in the same race.

I think it would be good to get an updte on the progress that FLOSS is making in governments, schools and companies. Perhaps, we can reglarly invite speakers from each of these areas to update us on how they are benefiting from FLOSS usage.

Trevor,
I am not sure if I understood your message but that never prevents me from opening my mouth :-)
Some quick suggestions I have for a list of speakers for future events
1) Central Bank of India -- They saved approximately $1 million by switching to Linux 2) Government of Maharashtra -- Major deployment in the Government sector 3) LIC -- 10,000 desktops, approximately $2 million saved, one of the largest desktop implementations I have come across 4) Dr. DB Phatak, IIT Bombay -- Great speaker, great champion of Open Source 5) Javed Tapia, CEO, Red Hat 6) Rajesh Jain -- Netcore (see his blog at www.emergic.org) 7) NSE -- Mission critical implementation of Linux for derivatives trading
I am sure that others on this list can think of many more speakers.

Speakers are a welcome lot Venky and we should have them come across to the meetings/forums and share their ideas and experiences.
My point simply was and remains...."Talk is good....but i would have us get into more *action*". And some action which will lay the foundation for the generation of tomorrow. Eg:
A sustained campaign all across the state towards
conducting awareness and Educational workshops on FLOSS and importance of Localisation.
I am very sure with the minds we have here we can come up with a hundred good things to do for this fiscal venky.

Prof. Phatak of IIT Bommbay is on a similar mission. He is on sabbatical and using this time to travel to engineering colleges to talk about the future of IT. Open Source plays a major role in the talks that he delivers. The first step would be to approach engineering colleges to gauge their level of interest. If the last LUG meet was any indication, the interest level seems to be high.
The second step would be to figure out what is of interest to the students of these colleges and how aware they are of FLOSS issues. Accordingly, weneed to figure out what content we need to deliver and who will volunteer to do the same.
