In case you are looking for getting a server with full root access and decent data limits (~100GB) then i'd suggest UnixShell's [1] XEN based hosting. Though the servers arent based in india but the technology utting edge.
Indian servers will turn out to be pretty costly and quite unreliable. Try hostgator, godaddy bluehost ;)
Problem with hosting outside India is wire transfer. I have servers at Rackspace and they are quite good but every month wire transfer and other form fillups are becoming tedious. Is there any one decent who is doing server hosting in India at reasonable price?

try contacting www.indiannic.com. I think they might be able to help you out. None of the plans on their website will be of any use to you. Ask them if they will customize a plan for you. I'm sure they'll work out something for you.

Thats why you have Credit Cards. They aren't entirely evil.
Unixshell is good... but XEN Source is still patchy. AFAIK, they are having a difficult time keeping the time in the vitual machines synched to global NTP time servers.
Linode (http://linode.com) UML based is a more tried and tested option.

Most of the server data centers should allow credit card payments. Doing wire transfers is costly and time consuming, specially if you have to do it every month. We have been using credit cards for payments for internet hosting. No problem so far.
