I am facing problem in sending mail from client end getting error SMTP server not responding checked it found that at server end (qmail) cpu utilization is high like avarage above 75 % with load average is also more than 2 also found spam db size is always 400 Mb which is always constant ..please suggest what is the reason for high CPU utilization / or because of spam mails takes to scan those mails.

1) Please append a meaningful subjet line like My crappy mail client fails with error abc. 2) Dont send stupid confidentiality warnings. (btw the warning is double the size of your mail. ) If your PHB cannot understand the pointlessness of such appendages use gmail or some such. You know your message costs everybody else money. 3) This is a linux mailing list, it's users are unaffected by virus etc.

scanning is always very expensive. set the mail size limit to 2 mb that will prevent people from sending videos of their toms and jerries as attachments.

There isn't much of information in your email. Please elaborate on the problem.
- What steps have you taken to investigate the problem? - What logs / error messages / warnings have you come across? - Did you try checking what is in your mail queue thats causing Qmail to go nuts? - Tell us how how many user accounts and active users are on that server? - What is the configuration of the machine?
Info is the key to getting answers and avoiding flames!
