Hi I recently moved to suse from redhat. However i could not get my sound card working (it worked with redhat). The sound card is a *crystal cs4232* ISA card. I tried to use the kernel driver by editing the /etc/modules.conf but in vain. Also can anyone please help me in configuring my internal modem Motorola SM56. Please provide detailed steps to get these both working.
Thank you in advance. Paresh C.

I also have the same internal Modem and I had downloaded a driver from the Motorola's website (I forgot exact URL, but u can try http://www.motorola.com ) for which they had mentioned following contitions to get the modem working ..
1> U shud be using RHL 7.1 ; Nothing less, nothing more 2> The m/b shud be intel 810 or higher
So, if u can satisfy the above mentioned conditions , then only u can even think of configuring yr modem. A .rpm file is available for download which they say is ready to install driver file .. It also comes with small amount of documentation and a hyperlink to the online help is also provided near the link for download ..
Hope this will help u out ..

As mentioned in my earlier mail,u have to download the driver file from the motorola's site .. Here's the URL: http://e-www.motorola.com/products/softmodem/support/sm56_5.1_i38 6.rpm
And before downloading, don't forget to read the docs that they've put up on the above mentioned link's parent page which is
http://e-www.motorola.com/products/softmodem/support/software.htm l
So,after u download the RPM file install the file using (Log in as root)
$ rpm -Uvh sm56.rpm (Replace sm56.rpm with whichever file u've downloaded) $ /usr/local/sm56 $ reboot (I'm not very sure why we need reboot,but it din't work for me .. I had to reboot)
They've also got a man page for the modem which u can read by typing
$ man sm56
And voila! yr SM56 Internal modem is ready !! As of now I'm using SuSE 7.1(Thanks to Navin for giving me the CDs) and the above mentioned procedure worked for me .. However it failed in Caldera OpenLinux 2.3 .. May be the older kernel was the problem ..
Hope this helps u out :-)
