Hi
I need Red-Hat 9 installs. I stay near Thane (Bombay) ... so anyone who can gimme the CDs or get me the CD for me to burn, would be quite welcome.. I don't have the time/bandwidth/money to download 3/4 * 650 MBs over the net. So please help me out here!
I have Red-Hat 8 which used to install fine on my older machine. But on my P4..Intel865, the setup doesn't go into Graphical mode. Then even more frustrating is that in the install options, I get NFS HTTP FTP
The freaking local CDROM option seems to have gone to take a walk... although the machine boots from the same CD
I have myself setup Linux on my P2 n times without getting this issue. On a forum, someone suggested that since it is new hardware, RHL 9 is the best bet.. instead of getting X updates. Don't know how true it is... I'm quite new to Linux.... sometimes when I get tired of Win.. I just go down this lane for a few days. Till linux throws up something like this, making me go back to the solitary option..

I have Red Hat 9.0 (3 install CDs and 1 Doc CD). You can mail me off the list, or call me on 9223 208819.
HTH, Rajen.
You can try using Xandros. It came free with 'Linux For You' last month or before. It installs smoothly on a P4 and could detect my internal modem too, which even Enterprise Linux could not do and refuses to do so. I only use it for my study material. Xandros even has a free CD burner although speed is limited in the free version. Still something is better than nothing. Xandros loads within 30 minutes. It also has some nice wallpapers, a lovely desktop and a very important feature of reading my windows files in the file browser in Linux. I could open my doc and excel files from the my documents in the win partition into Open Office in Linux. Same with html files too. The only problem was with importing mails from my FAT partition which I believe was expecting too much from a free OS. Oh! and its got a screen capture utility too. It works out to be the most compatible OS for those used to windows and easiest for migration. It is only one CD.
Regards, Rony.
PS: Thanks to all those who replied to my earlier mail and gave their opinions. Thank you very much.

What kind of mails were these? Never seen anyone have trouble importing email from one program to another. Oh yeah, OE on windows has trouble importing mails from other email programs, but most other programs can read each others' mail formats and there's also a converter for OE style mail boxes.

Sorry, but I replied in the original format, did not add/subtract anything. Anyway, I cut the subject line this time.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux, supposed to be a step ahead of Red Hat 9. This is used for the RHCE course.

The free version has speed limited to 4X. The paid version has normal speed. Its information is available on the http://www.xandros.com/ site.

I tried to get mails from my folder in windows into mozilla in Linux. If you know any procedure, would be glad to know. I have done importing and exporting in windows but this was cross OS in the same hard disk in Linux.

Ok. :) Me not done that course.

Like people have already mentioned... why? Since you're already doing the research on this project, feel free to find out. Also see if you can replace their CD burner with an existing Free version.

Got some good links there. Maybe one of them will help you. Heck, why not try all and tell us your experiences.

Evening, I have the seven CD set of RH9 (3 binaries, 3 source & 1 doc). I live in Bandra, you can call me up at 9892714151 and we can set up an RV for the exchange. As RH9 is more than a year old, I suggest you go in for something more up to date like Fedora Core 2 (4 cd's), ie. if you prefer something from redhat's stable. Vivek
