SELinux can be controlled through GUI. In Mandriva he should go to System > Configure your computer > .....
and I did that...tried searching for SElinux....poked around in security....no go.......
Go to Start > System > Configuration > Configure Your Computer.
Enter your root password. The 'Mandriva Linux Control Center' window will open up.
Inside the Security sub-menu, you have the first option 'Set the system security level and periodic security audit'. This sets the levels of security of in-built SELinux.
The other option 'Setup a personal firewall.....' is for your firewall settings.
You could also browse through 'Fine tune security permissions of the system'.
I followed till Start->System->Configuration but there's no Configure your Computer there. The odd thing is that I remember it used to be there during the first 2 losses of user account....those times I reinstalled....and the Configure your computer used to be there............
I think the best option is let this thread take a breather,I will get a new Mandriva DVD from Mrugesh, install and then follow these steps...then if the problem reoccurs,I will report back again...... I am actually of the opinion that Mandriva has given me so many problems that I plan to shift to Ubuntu Fiesty and Fedora 7(64 bit)... :x

Why not get your machine to VJTI?. since many of us will be there we could identify the problem.

I am an Ubuntu/Debian fan but your reasons for switching distros is wrong. Media issues should not be blamed on distros. Anyway lets wait till you install from the new media.
