Hi all,
MTNL is testing their broadband services across bombay. I have applied for it but they said it will take atleast 45 days to get a connection as they are still testing in other areas of the city. ... ( me based at borivli )
the engg was not aware about linux support but said they are using all standard and latest stuff ...
has anyone tested it on linux ?
More info on this service is here http://mumbai.mtnl.net.in/internetservices/adsl/triband.html

what if one uses more than 200 MB per month , the callcenter lady says they charge Rs.1.20ps per KB thereafter ..she is not clear If the speed for upstream data transfer is seperate from download. Most webpages are so high on graphics these days that 200 MB will be consumed in a Flash. they dont have toll free nos but if u want tech details call 22633827. Comments fromn existing users of Triband most welcome, especially regarding their billing's. What if ones account is cracked/misused ? she had no ans. for that too.
As far as adsl connection goes linux supports it without any problem
If you use redhat/fedora: /sbin/adsl-setup Graphic: system-configure-network
If Debian/Knoppix ppoe-conf
Suse: YAST
should help you get connected

MTNL triband is like driving a super highway with a speed limit oif 30km/hr.The first plan starts at Rs 399 and download limit of 400mb with 256kbps.WHat the hell?THis download limit will be surpassed within 2 days.I guess the definition of broadband in INdia is "always on & no telephone bill"
MTNL dialup is always affordable than Triband.
