Hi,

Does'nt the installer have a text-installation routine? Try that....at the boot prompt, you can type install text or something similar, check out the
------------------------ I finally tried the text version, but the partitioning options confused me.. I am a Linux novice, used to Win32 so far. Autopartition threw some error messages I couldnt fathom, & disk druid has a maze of options that left me dizzy.
I have 4 partitions of which one (F: in windows) is 11Gb on which I wish to install Linux. C: has Win98.
Is there a really simple or ready way that I can just select this drive(hda7 or whatever) & install linux & swap partition & stuff on it ?
BTW I'm trying out PCQlinux 8.0
Thanks, --Royce.

I am not sure how PCQ packaged RHL8.0, but you could use the provided installer to delete the 11GB win(f:) partition and tell the installer to use it. Assuming you have a decent amount of RAM(like say 256M), you may not even need any swap space, though again i doubt that the installer will allow you to proceed without a swap partition. And about your nvidia graphics chipset, you can either choose to downlaod and install the nvidia binary drivers(which really work great), or you can use plan vesa(which should also work).
Since this is a fairly powerful machine, I'd suggest you try out a couple of other install-friendly distributions - Mandrake9.1, Yoper or Xandros...all of which have decent "hardware detection" and "user friendly" routines. You could prolly ask someone on the mailing list to lend it to you overnight.

For the OP - if there is a straight forward way to delete partitions in Win98, use that to delete your F:\ such as fdisk from a DOS prompt or some equivalent GUI method. Deleting from the installer will require some extra effort on your part. If this is the only partition of size 11GB, it will be easy for you to recognise it.
There's no simple way to figure out the mapping from drive-letter to partition number from the installer. You'll need to understand how to mount partitions in the initial stages of the installer, how does the partition numbering in Linux work, etc.
Sameer.
