What does this number mean? Is this number something similar to usernames given to members of a website? I think similar number was displayed at Philip's homepage also. Please explain.
The No. is alloted to you if you register yourself as a GNU/Linux user at http://counter.li.org/
You will find what the whole thing is all about at the site. Once you register, you will also get a small logo made of Tux and your Regd. No. on it! :-). Though - the last time I checked - they provided GIF logos (Don't tell ESR 'bout this) probably because they are using GD (nevermind). Although, you can simply convert it to PNG so that Unisys doesn't come knocking your door askinng for royalties!
I will end now, too much pointless blabbering, I have a hangover

Thanks a lot for the info that u've provided. I've just now completed the registration at the site.
And thanks for changing the Subject of the mail also. Yesterday, in hurry, I forgot to change the subject. I'm sorry to all for the irrelevant subject in my previous mail.

Current versions of GD don't create gifs. Only PNGs. It's easy to convert using gif2png, available in windows exe as well as elf format.
