Whenever I run KDE, the mouse does not respond but it does change
Does it work in the console?
Nopes, it doesn't.
Do you have gpm running?
Yes. What does it do?
You don't need a mouse to get a mouse icon.
One learns something new everyday!
Make sure that your mouse works elsewhere, to isolate the problem either to the mouse driver, or to KDE. Philip
The problem was with the mouse driver. I ran mouseconfig and specified the driver as "MS Intellimouse 2.1 or higher".
Thanks.

No, asciibets is correct, although I'd prefer something similar to letters -> letters of the alphabet -> letters of the asciibet.

It's what uses your mouse in the console for all sorts of funky things like clipboard, etc. man page for more. Can't say how valuable it was during the student account days.
