When you first plug in the device , right click on icon in desktop, safely
remove device, then give it a min, it will connect automatically.

I am using without any problem. Nothing special to do. The system recognizes the device.

10.04 has a problem with tata photon's upgraded EC 1261 modem. It's a simple fix. *Install usb-modeswitch & usb-modeswitch-data using synaptic package manager. **edit /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/12d1:1446 as root or type following in a terminal sudo gedit /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/12d1:1446 Add '140b' in the TargetProductList=
Restart your machine after the edit & create a new broadband mobile connection. Your EC1261 modem will be recognized automatically
