Anyone tried cable internet on linux? It seems you need some special (TM) software for access. And my cablewala doesn't support linux users because he doesn't have the software for linux nor is he interested in finding out.
What next? I desperately want to switch to cable but won't go with windows just for that!

[snip] i just got a broad band connection from my cable provider....but it's thro a cat5 ethernet conntn. The issue still remains......that most of these providers either r ill aware abt the underlyin systems or the method to tackle ny issues.
Guess wat..... Just did some research.....nd came up with this....The server is located nearby...runs Linux, ldap, squid, telnet, smtp nd ssh. duuuuuh.....didn't figure out wat the ssh nd telnet were doin on the ISP gateway open to the world..:D Another prob i faced.....is cause these guys r NATin, probably using netfilter or ipchains...my ip isn't world readible.......nyway out of this issue.....:-/
