New subject: ftp site
Dear members,
recently we have downloaded new stuff in the ftp site of
the group (ftp.ilug-bom.org.in). These are the contents:
Documentation:

HOWTO's in single and several html pages
LDP (it is being right now, it will take a little while
to finish)
Sources:
--------
kernel version 2.2.20
kernel version 2.4 (all files and patches)
kernel version 2.5.0 and 2.5.1
Distributions:
--------------
debian 2.2 release 4, with non-free and non-US as well and proposed
updates
gentoo
linux-router
redhat-7.2 (ISO images)
There is some space left (about 6GB). Please send me your suggestions
about what else I can download. Some people said Debian/woody and
Debian/Hurd. Any other idea?

MD5 sum to ensure that the it is not a trojan-ed binary.
These suggestions applicable only to the directories holding
sources/binaries.

Thanks to all of you who sent suggestions about the ftp site. A
couple of remarks and questions.
First of all, Openoffice xfs file system are being dowloaded right
now.
Secondly, I will see if I can mirror more Debian distributions, it
will depend on the disk space.
About the README file:
I got the MD5 sums of the redhat distribution and they match the
files in our site. I have put the file. What about the rest? Do
you mean that I should computer the md5 sums (many sites do not
provide this information)? Please let me know and I will compute
it if needed; it is a very good idea.

Cool. :-) I just hope that everyone who downloads from the site,
really does the checksumming before burning the CD(s).

Before putting up the ISOs for public download, they should be
MD5-checksumed so as to be sure that the binary is not corrupted
and to ensure that it is not a trojan.
(many sites do not provide this information)?
I am surprised to know that many sites don't provide such MD5
sums. _All_ mirrors are supposed to have the MD5 sums of the
goodies they host, especially source/binaries. Nevertheless, you
can get the MD5 sums at LinuxISO:
